The
Revolutionary Innovative
SRM Roofing
Membranes
The Leap to the quality
of the 21th
Century

Y.S.M. for Building presents
a valuable breakthrough in the field of waterproofing membranes
for:
roofing, civil engineering , sealing,
general waterproofing.
The development is based upon two patent pending applications, made by Raphael Heifetz
(1998).
The new development presents revolutionary sealing membranes having the SRM technique (patent pending).
The new membranes are based on the prior art: TPO,
PVC, EPDM, bituminous membranes or rubberized asphalt membranes, which include the new Stresses Reduction
Mechanism (SRM).
The SRM provides those membranes with a reliable, almost unlimited, bridging ability (above widening cracks; spaces, expansion joints, giant fissures and
fractures and above any rate of movements in the substrate). The
SRM limits or prevents transferring shear and tensile stresses from the substrate to the
membrane.
The term "SRM" in the context
of sealing membranes, was defined by YSM for building (1997).
The new products are unique, fully-firmly attached single-ply
membranes, with new revolutionary features.
(All technical details are still under strict confidentiality).
The SRM membranes present all the
advantages of the fully bonded membrane together with all the benefits of the free
floating membrane, avoiding the disadvantages of both concepts.
The Y.S.M.s new concept - sheeting and products, utilizes a new
combination of physical and chemical properties by means of mechanisms which bestow a new
set of properties to the sheeting.
The SRM Waterproofing Membranes Advantages:
- The mechanism prevents the membrane from being torn or
frazzled by limiting the transformation of shear and tensile stresses caused by the
substrate movements. In practice, the device locates the presence of a
movement caused by a widening crack. It responds automatically and immediately to any
movement in its vicinity and responds actively to the appearance of a new crack in a
substrate which had maintained its integrity earlier on.
- The new sealing membranes are totally unaffected by all types of physical
failures of the substrate, mainly: cracks, giant cracks and fractures, and moving
spaces between constructive elements. The sheet enables continuous sheeting above
expansion joints or above any vigorous movement of the substrate whilst preventing the
possibility of water penetrating and accumulating between the upper sheet and the
substrate. Doing so, the sheet demonstrates the same benefits of a firmly, fully
adhered/welded membrane, together with high freedom from stresses,
achieved by the standard free floating membrane (mechanically attached systems,
paver/stone ballasted system or concrete covered).
- The new sheet provides a new, better, more reliable and simple attachment
against wind up-lift elevation forces, but, with no additional weight to
the roof nor the mechanical perforating of the membrane.
- Ensuring that in case of a flaw or tear in the membrane - no flood will occur between
the membrane and the substrate.
- The new system enables the manufacturer to increase the warranty period.
- The new combined sheet has a shape of a membrane, for both polymeric
and bituminous versions.
- New standard of bridging ability: tests with different embodiments have
proven tremendous bridging ability above widening new cracks that grow up to even
more than 55 mm width ! (on variable widening speeds). (lab' tests
procedures were video and stills documented).
- No elongation properties and no additional thickness are required for the main
membrane in order to achieve all of these mentioned properties.
- Prefab double - panels for external walls can be low-cost sealed protected from the
inside, against any size of a crack by a bituminous improved membrane of no more than 1.5
mm thick. With tensile strength of even 30-40 kg per 5 cm, or by only 0.25 mm thick of
polymeric (e.g., TPO / PVC) membrane.
- Perfectly seals any type of moving substrate upon crack, widening spaces or mechanical
defect in the substrate by a fully attached, low thickness membrane.
- Increase in the continuous sealing reliability.
- A significant increase in the membrane's life-span.
The life span of the sealing is assured even when the sheet loses its elasticity or most
of its flexibility, as long as reasonable breaking strength (for roofing - above
about 40-60 kgs per 5 cm) survives.
- The new mechanism demonstrates a preferable alternative to the property of elongation.
There is no need for substantial elongation, the sheet must be reinforced or with quite
high module of elasticity.
- Prevention of the risk of inundation under the sheet.
- Improved cost-effectiveness:
- The concept enables reduction of main membrane thickness wherever
thickness is required for improving mechanical resistance.
- Saving the under sheet geotechnical protections.
- For the TPO and other thermoplastic and thermoset, drastic lowering the costs of all the
attachment and bonding measures compared with the prior-art conventional membranes.
- For the bituminous version - a new, beneficial improvement in cost effectiveness.
- Enables an extreme low cost strait-attachment of the TPO-SRM membranes above bituminous
substrate.
- Obviating the necessity for screws, weights or concrete to anchor the sheet.
- Simplification of the sealing application.
- Substantial reduction in local stresses as a result of thermal shrinkage.
- The new device will ensure much improved performance and resistance at extreme
low temperatures.
- The sheeting enables sealing between two layers of concrete e.g. in concrete
tunnels, parking areas or under foundations or in a wall section or in a section
of any structural element, wherever cracking is anticipated in the section, to ensure
continuous sealing despite shearing stresses in the cross-section caused by
cracking and movements, the membrane will retain its integrity.
- The device is constructed of environmental-friendly materials.
- The device is most endurable and in the high-grade versions its qualities can be assured
for a generation or longer.
- All the attachments /welding process and installations had been proven and
successfully tested.
- All the tests relating to weatherability, aging resistance, water absorption,
fireproofing, wind and heat resistance, color durability etc. are according to the usual
standards.
- Logistical simplicity and convenience in supplying the product, its mobility and
storage.
Uses: The new
sheets are designed to seal all types of substrate, especially: roofs, subterranean walls,
subterranean elements, sealing of foundations, sealing of tanks and containers, cells,
piping and various applications in civil engineering.
For civil engineering - many kinds of cabin, containers, pipes, aircrafts, etc. and for
preventing transmission of fluid under pressure from inside - outside and vice versa as a
result of any crack in the construction.
The development was made by YSM for
Building and evaluated within the framework of an experimental test pilot in 4
Israeli leading plants and was evaluated with excellent feedback by 2 of the world leading
firms in the field of waterproofing.
